Wet Belt Sander Safety
information on wet belt sanders.
Here are a few tips for using your wet belt sander safely.
1. Don't wear long sleeve shirts or loose clothing.
Tie long hair back and remove watches, chains, or loose jewelry.
Because you work close to the belt, it's possible for the belt to
grab your clothing, hair, or other items while you're working.
2. Consider wearing a respirator. Even though the
belt is wet and the piece is wet, quite a bit of dust can be
generated. This is especially important if you're grinding for
a long period of time.
3. Be absolutely certain that the belt is thoroughly wet
before starting to grind the glass. If it isn't, the glass
could overheat and crack or even explode.
4. Be very careful about where your fingers are.
This is especially critical with the finer grits. If you're
not careful, it's possible to actually sand the skin off your
fingers. And it happens so quickly and subtly you may not
notice it until the damage is done.
